
FORESTS IN EUROPE
The sites below give some information about selected aspects of forests and forestry in Poland. They are aimed to give a view of complexity of forest ecosystems and its managment, forest resources in Poland, biodiversity and nature protection. They will serve as a source of information about forests in Poland in Contest "Young People in European Forests".
The sites were created on the base of material from State Forests Information Centre in Poland, Polish National Parks, "Forest" Publishing House and Forest Friends Association.
 | FOREST CHARACTERISTIC AND FOREST TYPES Nowadays forest area in Poland covers 9088 thousands ha (according to GUS- Central Statistic Office- data from 31.12.2009), what makes 29.1 % share of forests. Directly after Second War that share were 20.8 %. Constant increase of the forest share can be observed. |
 | TYPICAL AND EXCEPTIONAL FAUNA AND FLORA SPECIES IN FORESTS Because of moderate, intermediate climate (between oceanic and continental) Poland stand out in Central Europe with the most diverse and the richest forest biocenose. |
 | FORMS OF NATURE PROTECTION SUCH AS NATIONAL PARKS AND NATURE 2000 SITES National Park is a legally protected area, preserved in natural, or barely changed by human and economic activity, with uncommon scientific, nature, landscape, social, culture and educational values, where all nature elements are protected. |
 | ORGANIZATION OF FORESTRY In Poland public forests dominates (82.5 %); therein state forests are 94 % (7 million ha). Private forests, mainly persons, share 16.4% of forests (1.6 million ha). |
